The effect of eight weeks’ endurance training and stevia supplement on ANP and b-MHC gene expression of heart tissue in type 1 diabetic rats

Abstract:

Background: The beneficial effects of exercise and stevia extract have been reported to improve diabetes-related indicators. However, the cardiac benefits of exercise and stevia extract in type 1 diabetes are unclear. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of eight weekschr('39') endurance training and stevia supplement on ANP and b-MHC gene expression of heart tissue in type 1 diabetic rats. Methods: In this experimental study, 25 rats (weight 300-250 g) were divided into 5 groups; healthy control, type 1 diabetic control, type 1 diabetic + stevia, type 1 diabetic + endurance training and type 1 diabetic + endurance training + stevia. In this study, the rats were type1 diabetic using given a single dose of 55 mg/kg per body weight and peritoneal injection streptozotocin. Endurance training was performed 5 days a week at a speed of 20 to 30 meters per minute and a slope of zero degrees for 8 weeks. The dose of stevia was 250 mg per kilogram of body weight in gavage. rats were slaughtered 48 hours after the last training session. Cardiac tissue was used to analyze the indicators. The gene expression of ANP and b-MHC in cardiac tissue was measured by Real Time PCR. Data were analyzed by One-way ANOVA and Bonferronchr('39')s post hoc test. Findings: The results showed that the gene expression of ANP and b-MHC in the heart tissue of diabetic control rats was significantly higher than the healthy control group (P=0.001). Also, the gene expression of ANP and b-MHC in the heart tissue of rats in the type 1 diabetic group + endurance training and type 1 diabetic + endurance training + stevia was significantly lower than the control diabetic group (P=0.001). Conclusion: According to the findings, endurance training and Stevia supplementation intervention can have cardiac benefits for type 1 diabetic rats.
